Slaves, freemen, nobles

Slaves, freemen, nobles July 16-18 and August 13-15, 2019

Open 11:00-17:00.

Thralls, karls and jarls. The Viking society was divided into clear social strata, as you will learn more about this week. In the very lowest class, at the absolute bottom were the slaves, the thralls. In the middle class were the freemen, the karls, and at the top of the social hierarchy were the nobles, the jarls.

Find out how it is to be a slave with no rights at all. Visit a middle class family and attend the Thing assembly led by the Earl who is in the position to enforce law and order in Ripa.
