Breakfast porridge with apple and honey

There's nothing quite like delicious porridge on a cold morning. It gets you warm and fills you up. You can use whatever grain you like best, add fruit, berries, nuts, and if you add milk, you will end up with a creamy result.

This breakfast porridge has a topping of apple, dried cranberries, toasted hazelnuts and sweet honey.

Procedure

Add water, barley and oats to a cooking pot and bring to the boil. Let it cook about 30-45 min., stirring occasionally. Add more water if needed.

When the barley and oats are tender, you can add the milk for a creamy consistency. Season to taste with salt.

Serve the porridge with a topping of apple, cranberries, nuts and honey

  • 200 ml milk
  • 280 g whole barley (or pearl barley)
  • 70 g rolled oats
  • 1 heaped tsp salt
  • 2 tangy apples, diced
  • 1 handful dried cranberries
  • 1 handful toasted hazelnuts, crushed
  • Honey
