Indvielse af kirkemalerierne - Ribe VikingeCenter

Over the past three years, visual artist Trine Theut has been decorating the walls of the Ansgar Church 860 AD in Ribe VikingeCenter. The 50 carefully selected motifs have been painted in the Carolingian style and are based on the pictorial traditions of naturalist scenes from Christian stories. The St. John Abbey Church in Müstair with its many well-preserved 9th century frescoes has been the main inspiration for the murals. The colour palette which the National Museum of Denmark has produced based on analyses of painted wood dating back to the Viking Age, has given the paintings a bright and vivid expression.

On May 20th the inauguration of the murals will take place with a special service performed by the bishop of the Diocese of Ribe, Elof Westergaard.
